چکیده

In order to attain the requisite sensitivity for LISA a joint space mission of the ESA and NASAthe laser frequency noise must be suppressed below the secondary noises such as the optical path noise, acceleration noise etc. By combining six appropriately time-delayed data streams containing fractional Doppler shifts a technique called time delay interferometry (TDI) the laser frequency noise may be adequately suppressed. We consider the general model of LISA where the armlengths vary with time, so that second generation TDI are relevant. However, we must envisage the possibility, that not all the optical links of LISA will be operating at all times, and therefore, we here consider the case of LISA operating with two arms only. As shown earlier in the literature, obtaining even approximate solutions of TDI to the general problem is very difficult. Since here only four optical links are relevant, the algebraic problem simplifies considerably. We are then able to exhibit a large number of solutions (from mathematical point of view an infinite number) and further present an algorithm to generate these solutions. LISA Benchtop Experiment

The Laser Interferometer Space Antenna (LISA) is expected to launch in the middle of the next decade. LISA will detect gravitational waves generated by sources ranging from galactic sources like neutron star and white dwarf binaries to mergers between super-massive black holes in the centers of colliding galaxies. LISA will consist of six freely-falling proof masses shielded by three identical ...

Time Delay Interferometry and LISA Optimal Sensitivity

The sensitivity of LISA depends on the suppression of several noise sources; dominant one is laser frequency noise. It has been shown that the six Doppler data streams obtained from three space-crafts can be appropriately time delayed and optimally combined to cancel this laser frequency noise. We show that the optimal data combinations when operated in a network mode improves the sensitivity o...

Time-Delay Interferometry

Equal-arm interferometric detectors of gravitational radiation allow phase measurements many orders of magnitude below the intrinsic phase stability of the laser injecting light into their arms. This is because the noise in the laser light is common to both arms, experiencing exactly the same delay, and thus cancels when it is differenced at the photo detector. In this situation, much lower lev...

Experimental demonstration of time-delay interferometry for the laser interferometer space antenna.

We report on the first demonstration of time-delay interferometry (TDI) for LISA, the Laser Interferometer Space Antenna. TDI was implemented in a laboratory experiment designed to mimic the noise couplings that will occur in LISA. TDI suppressed laser frequency noise by approximately 10(9) and clock phase noise by 6×10(4), recovering the intrinsic displacement noise floor of our laboratory tes...

Experimental demonstration of weak-light laser ranging and data communication for LISA.

Interferometric gravitational wave detectors with an unequal and time-varying arm length configuration like the Laser Interferometer Space Antenna rely on time-delay interferometry (TDI) for laser frequency noise subtraction. However, the TDI algorithm requires a laser ranging scheme with meter accuracy over a five million kilometer arm length. At the end of each arm only about 100 pW of light ...
